If you are one of those people who likes to give your hard earned pounds, dollars or euros to other hard-working individuals rather than faceless corporations. Guesthouse Anna is for you. Itīs owned and operated by the quirky Anna herself who lived in the States for many years and speaks like a genuine southerner.
The guesthouse is housed in the former Czech Embassy which means the rooms are big, and, more importantly the house itself is in a posh neighbourhood happily distant from singing drunks on weekends, but close enough to be a 10 minute stagger home should you wish to be one of that gang yourself (Itīs also a short hike to the bus station for that trip to the Blue Lagoon and the airport.)
Rooms are en-suite or with shared bath, each beautifully decorated and the breakfast is served in a bright common room overlooking the back garden. Being so perfect, the guesthouse fills up in summer; make sure you book ahead.

Guesthouse Anna. Run by the animated and friendly Anna, who lived in the States for 25 years and so speaks excellent English. Excellent value and very handy for the long-distance bus station, and definitely one of Reykjavík's better guesthouse.

Anna Tryggvadottir McDonald is an engaging Icelander with an accent from Atlanta, where she lived more than 30 years. She has 12 rooms, six with bath. It costs about $113 for a double with bath, including an Icelandic breakfast with bread, cold meats, cheeses and fruit....
